Maddie had a wonderful gesturing/ signing/ verbal approximations with a woman in the checkout line at our local drugstore. When I said “Nope!” to the sillybandz Maddie made her fat lip sad face, and pointed to the lady and at the bands. And the woman said “I’ll buy these for her.”
It’s so nice when people get it! She could’ve ignored Maddie or been irritated, but she treated Maddie like any random kid in the aisle who was talking to her. There was nothing condescending or childish about the conversation.
She did not have to buy those bands for Maddie, she was way cool without doing that.
Nice people rule!
I love that story : )
And I thought Maddie’s “total communication” skills were fabulous when I met her.
