keeping fit for your child, for yourself

Maddie is 12.  She has some cross-over Prader-Willi characteristics (ie she is a huge eater).  She could easily weigh 200 lbs if I wasn’t strict with her.  She currently is 5’2″ weighs 120.  (Eeeek if she posts my height and weight as a comment!!)

Part of caring for Maddie means being able to carry her at times.  I don’t think most people are prepared to carry an adult-sized child.  Years ago I learned the rules for safe transfers and how to protect your back (and most times I remember to follow those rules).   But maintaining myself and trying to have some strength will be the best plan long term.

Plus being a good example… I can’t really insist she have an apple for a snack if I’m chugging soda and shoveling in junk food.

Anyways, I thought this was a good article:

One Response to keeping fit for your child, for yourself

  1. I appreciated this thought. I have lost a lot of motivation to work out, but knowing that my son is just going to get bigger is a great reason to make sure I’m in the best shape I can be in order to help him out. And I am also impressed with the fact that you are a mother of 5 children when Maddie was your first born. My angel is our first and I have been wondering how crazy life might get with more than him and his younger brother. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and your life with your family.
